Who Knows The Genuine Will of God?

Do you know what God wills for you?

Who knows God’s will?

Hello šŸ˜Š

How have you been?  I had an interesting conversation with someone recently. As we discussed, the topic began to change slightly.

It was about how life happens to us most times. How we tend to accept things that come our way even when we wish some of them never happened.

They were of the strong opinion that praying for “God’s will” can be a form of weakness. More like a hopeless prayer.

People ought to know what they desire and ask God for it specifically.

Like you need to ask for:

  • What you want.
  • Be specific.

Personally, I haven’t seen it that way although I can understand their views.

I would normally think it means you know God’s will is always the best.

Then, we all know that we don’t even know what God wills for us.

There are things we need badly and they are yet to happen regardless of how often we have asked God for them.

Then again, God’s will happens regardless of whether we ask for them or not.

Do we even know God’s will for us ā€¦?

We learn everyday.

I guess we need to be very specific most times as He will always do His will.

One of the responses I got from a priest reads:

“No, I don’t think prayer governs God. Instead, prayer makes us to be disposed of God’s will. If our will aligns with God’s will, our petition goes our way. If our will is contrary to God’s will, God’s will happens. Prayer makes us to accept God’s will that is contrary to our will without much complaint. This does not mean that we cannot have a particular or specific intention in prayer.

Remember the prayer of Jesus at the garden of Gestimany (Luke 22:42), which should serve as our model of prayer. Jesus’ particular intention was that the father should take the cup of suffering away. However He ended by saying, not His will but God’s will be done. God’s will is for him to suffer and he did suffer. His prayer, nevertheless, strengthened Him.”

How can I not share  that beautiful write-up with you.

In addition, another comment reads:

“I think the statement on ‘being like a child’ to enter the Kingdom of God, could be referred to here. Trusting God like a baby would, his/her mum/dad, relying on what they decided is best, is the safest course of action. Blabbering about stuff you assumed is best for you rather than praising God and working hard to be in tune with Him, could lead to confusion, frustration and even mental health issues.

How do you know when to stop asking for more? Leaving your destiny in God’s hands does not imply endorsement of laziness, it means going about your business with a confidence for success and not in fear of failure. It means accepting defeat and disappointment without breaking down, because you believe you’re not entirely in charge. It’s a highly liberating way to live and operate. Of course, you have to be contented with the barest necessities, rather irrelevant lifestyle.”

Over to youā€¦

What do you think?

Spiritual life Is Important Too

Grateful heart ā™„ļø

It is still January and a lot of things we do can pave way for a better and greater remainder of the year.
If you are the praying type, have you embarked on any form of special prayer to commit the entire year into Gods hands? If the answer is no, its never too late. Maybe, this is the reminder you need.
Just like we set goals for personal or career development, our spiritual lives should not be left behind. This is essential as it has a unique way of helping us stay focused and enables us pick up what is left when life challenges happen.
I believe that certain personal achievements do not happen by chance as we earnestly work hard to accomplish them. Similarly, same zeal should be applied to our spiritual live and growth. Also, consistency in prayer habit is required too. Trust me, our spiritual lives can be likened to the foundation of a house. I know you would not want a shaky or unbalanced foundation.
Sometimes, what we need is to have a prayer partner or prayer group that aids in boosting our prayer life. It is more like someone giving you a helping hand and you can actually be accountable for your progress. For me, itā€™s a prayer group. I have learnt a lot by mere joining of a special prayer group filled with people who are hungry for God. I appreciate their great work because on my own I wouldnā€™t have come this close to where I am today. I am still on the journeyšŸ˜Š
If you are interested in knowing more about the prayer group, what they do or how to join, do feel free to contact me. More so, I am open to discuss further and provide support, if need be.

Lent Duties

Source: Quotesgram.com

Lent is an important season in the life of any practising catholic. Itā€™s time we mainly fast, pray and give alms. This period of the year is important to me as it arms me with the spiritual strength I need to survive the entire year.

There areĀ  forty days in lent.Ā  The Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten season. Most catholics would try to go to church for the distribution of the ashes. Normally, I partake in the ash as the priest do distribute ashes Wednesday and Sunday. This time, I hoped for the same but it didnā€™t happen as I worked on Wednesday and there was no sign of the ash on Sunday.

Different articles have it that pastors in other churches distribute ashes in public places which is not a good norm. Ashes should be distributed only in the church as its significance be held in high esteem.

The lent period enables one to reflect on Christā€™s sorrowful mystery and ask for God’s grace. More so, we are encouraged to forfeit something that we normally like during the Lenten season. It could be the smallest of things like: watching TV, eating chocolates among other things we can think of.

This period requires thatĀ  we eat less food as it boosts our spiritual life by not trying to satisfy all our needs. I have read severally that fasting and abstinence make the heart grow fonder.Ā Isaiah 58Ā will give you a typical idea of the kind of fast that pleases God.

Of importance are the works of mercy. They enable us to live as Christ would want us to. There are spiritual and corporal works of mercy. Spiritual works involves: conversion of sinners, instructing the ignorant, counselling of the doubtful, comforting of the sorrowful, bearing wrongs patiently, forgiving injuries, and praying for the dead. Similarly, corporal works of mercy are: feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked, harboring the stranger, visiting the sick, ministering the prisoners and burying the dead.

I have been behind this year in my Lenten attitude, so I have decided to buckle up now. I have observed the praying bit but not just on top on my other Lenten duties. I know itā€™s not too late. However, I do not think I am the only culprit. What about you?

More effort to you, if you are on the top of your Lenten duties but for those lagging behind like me, we can do it. Let do it.

I hope by reading this post we are made more aware of numerous ways we can keep ourselves accountable during this lenten season. Come Easter. May the lent season fill you with God’s love and graces.

P.S.

I understand that I might have readers who are not Christians and would therefore found this post irrelevant. Thanks for your time.
